The journey began in 2012 when founder Waigwa Gatamu, then a junior software engineer in London, faced the challenge of covering high rent on a modest income. He listed one bedroom in his two-bedroom flat, and within just two days, received his first booking. That single room not only covered his rent but also helped with utility bills—sparking a realisation about the potential of short-term rentals.
Over the next 14 years, Waigwa progressed in his software engineering career while investing in properties across London and listing them to generate additional income. What started as a practical solution evolved into a deep passion for premium hosting and property management. The combination of his technical background and extensive hands-on experience gave him unique insights into how technology could transform the vacation rental industry.
In 2024, that decade of proven expertise became Host My Nest—a tech-led property management company headquartered in King's Cross, London.
